we went to see Foreigner last night and they may be old but they've still got it! They rocked it out last night.....

A very hot, humid and muggy night here in Virginia, we were at an outside venue.....but it was fun!

Picnics.....

I love picnics....and I think one of the reasons I love them is they bring back such wonderful memories from my childhood.

We had picnics all of the time but at the time, didn't really know the reason for them except to have fun! Like I do remember mom would pack us a picnic lunch and we would spread a blanket under the big tree and eat our lunch. Part of the excitement was seeing what mom had packed for us and I guess the other part was just eating outside. Now that I look back, I know why she did this.......she was trying to clean the kitchen floor or house or something and wanted all of us kids outside!!

But she also packed picnic's when we went on road trips. Back then there were roadside pull overs everywhere with picnic tables. And again, most of the excitement came from seeing what mom had packed for us. And now that I look back, I know why they did this........they couldn't afford to take all of us kids into a restaurant while traveling on the road!!

But whatever the reason, we loved them!

Sunday we went to Scottsville to float the upper James River. I packed a big ole picnic lunch and a cooler full of drinks. After our 3 hour float, we spread the blanket out on the grass under the shade of a big tree and the kids proceeded to pull out all of the goodies I had packed. They loved everything......and little did they know that I packed a picnic lunch so that I wouldn't have to foot the lunch bill for 8 of us!!

I don't usually reference too many blogs on here.......well, my list to the right is getting pretty big!
But I run across so many great ones that I wanted to highlight a couple that I think you should check out!

I don't know how I even ran across this one but check out Nate over on the right. This is a young family that needs lots of prayers and it was kind of neat to me that they live in the Outer Banks......which is where we spend our beach vacation every year! So if you believe, please pray for this family, they need it right now.

Now I have found this one, check to the right...called Funny Homes. I have laughed so hard reading it. I can't even begin to believe that people have homes like that but proof is in the pics!!

And then there is Meg....I just love the great pics she takes, the fact that she has so many kids and keeps such a great sense of fun in their home!

and here's another one that makes me laugh.....Lotta Kids....she is very funny...almost as funny as Cat Woman!!

And I have to mention Precious Parker because here's a kid that I don't know but I just love. And Parker is in my prayers every single night....I hope you will add him to your's.

And if I knew how to do the little linky button, I would but it's just not working for me right now.

Wake up call..........and a serious post!

On Saturday afternoon around 4:00 I went to the Ukrops (our local grocery chain) over by Va Ctr Commons. This was a very busy time of the day.....parking lot full and a lot of people around but the car snob that I am, I park in the very back because I don't want people to ding my car! I couldn't find my cell phone and I had that on my mind as I went to my car. After the guy put my groceries in the trunk, I went to get in my car and flung the door wide open (no one parked around me) Then I spotted my cell phone sitting on the passenger seat half hidden by a beach towel. I checked missed calls and noticed Johnny boy had called about 10 min earlier so I went to that, had my thumb on the "talk" button when I heard a man say "M'am, do you have any money"........well, you can only imagine how that scared me! Oh no! I had not shut my door because I saw my phone and just didn't even think.

So the guy was positioned to where I could not even get my hand to the door handle without brushing against him. I said no to him and he got closer and said "I'm sure you do..I know you have money. I need money for gas" ......again I said no, I do not have any, please move.

the entire time I still had my thumb on the "talk" button which would have dialed Johnny right away and he would have heard what was going on.

Again, he moved even closer to where his head was right about at my face and his voice was even more stern......he said "I know you have money, I need money for gas".

In a stern voice, I said to him "Please move away from my car, I have no money"............he then backed off and I shut the door and locked it........and then my knees started shaking so bad I couldn't move.

I always, always, get in my car and shut the door and lock it.......I cannot believe that I left myself that open! I called Johnny and told him I think I was more mad at myself for being so vulnerable....I know better than that!

It very much served as a huge wake up call to me......and I would like to pass that on to you! Get in the car and lock it...then worry about that damn cell phone.... :)
