Worrell 1000 .....

The Worrell 1000 is a 1,000 mile beach catamaran

race between South Beach, Florida and Virginia Beach, Virginia

It started as a bet in a beach resort restaurant between 2 brothers, 

Michael and Chris Worrell

The bet was it was impossible to sail a 16 foot catamaran from

Va Beach to Florida. The first race was in 1976. 

It has missed a few years and rules changed to allow

for larger catamarans

The race for 2019 is the first one in 17 years

They started in Hollywood, Florida and will finish today

in Virginia Beach

We were lucky enough to get out on the beach this morning and

watch as they prepared to launch

The North Carolina stops were Wrightsville Beach,

Hatteras and Kill Devil Hills

It was fun being out on the beach this morning to

see them launch

This week .....

After having such a wonderful day on Sunday, warm,

out on the beach

Monday was cold! Probably not as cold but after having warmth

it felt cold and it was very, very windy so that made it feel colder

so that was the perfect time to pull some of my white bean chili out of the freezer. Then I made my fave salad

tomatoes, cukes, sweet onions

with vinegar, olive oil, onion powder and fresh basil...yum

On Tuesday I worked, Johnny ran some errands

and as soon as I logged off we headed over to the beach

83 degrees....and we took Pippa Lou who loves the beach

as much as we do!!

She is so good, no barking and there were a lot of dogs on the beach

she just lays on her beach towel and watches the ocean,
people and dogs

Wed was just working

81 degrees but we did not go to the beach

just had a lot of things around the house to take care of

Johnny worked on the shed...it's coming along!

he is in no rush...as he says, I work on retired time! haha

Thursday of course was Trivia time!!

we went to Hurricane Moe's for Happy Hour

yummy good shrimp and cold beer

Afterward we walked over to the beach....so beautiful

Then walked to Longboards for trivia

and we did awful....only got 12 out of 20!!

Then came Friday and all of these restaurants started posted

that they had fresh soft shell crabs!! one of my favorites
So we headed over to Blue Moon Beach Grill for soft shells
It was the first time this year we had to wait for a table....but only about 
20 minutes so not too bad

Sunday ....

Sunday fun day!!

Our Sunday started out with us sleeping in....doesn't get

much better than that

Lazy Sunday morning.....sitting out on the front balcony with 

coffee, late breakfast and then of course.....a run to Lowe's!! haha

Did a little yard work and then headed to the beach.

wow, so gorgeous. You could not have asked for a more beautiful day

We saw lots of dolphins out today

Living our best life on this little sandbar

very calm ocean today, small waves and with the south

wind coming in a little sideways

don't ever doubt the wild life down here

you can run across bears before you cross the bridge to the island

and then if you cross the Alligator river down past Manteo, lots of bears! 

had to buy some plants for the carport that can

stand not being in the sun

Saturday, April 27th ......

today was just a regular Saturday

ran errands, hung out, didn't do much

below is a cute little sign I made the other day

No day is ever complete without a drive down Beach Road...it 

never gets old to me

Added a palm to the back balcony...now it's finished

so calm and relaxing out there

I am so hooked on this artichoke recipe

sure wish the prices of artichokes would come down a little....geezz

DELICIOUS

We had planned all along to do raised beds for some tomatoes

and other veggies. Not going to get that done this year but will def

do it for next year. Instead we put a few cherry tomato

plants in our flower beds. Hope they do well

Last year we planted hydrangea's....one of my favorites

we had noticed they seemed to do well around here and they did

very well last year. But now this year getting bigger and is

covered in buds. Can't wait for them to bloom

We had thought about moving these but they are doing so well

here decided against it. It's a guessing game down here

as to what will do good considering the entire island

is only sand!

and our lavender is coming back from last year

and that's about it for today.

Tomorrow is looking good for a beach day...fingers crossed

6 months later...

good grief...talk about abandonment 

no post since October 2018!

I'm going to try to be so much better with posting

I'm almost retired, 20 more work days!!

Johnny and I have been having a lot of fun doing

things to our home 

Planted flowers, trying to get rid of the weeds (that's not really fun)

 fixing up the carport, my fave place to relax and hang out

We just love our neighbors....so much fun

and the fire pit is almost nightly

Johnny is making progress on his "she shed"...slow but progress

but that's fine, he's retired and works at his own pace now

here's the side yard...not too many weeds in this sod

I bought a Cricut machine to play around with during retirement

here's one of my first projects....

With not being too sure about how well flowers would do in this sand

we didn't overdo it too much

we buy garden soil and mix it with the sand and so far

things are doing well

you can also tell there are lots of weeds in this sod, which was a

different delivery. But Johnny is working his yard magic and 

slowly killing off the weeds. I know in a couple of years it will look great

I'm really hoping the clematis will do well. One of my fave's and I love

any flower that will continue to come back each year

hoping it will climb the fence

Last year we planted our first tree, a crape myrtle

and look at her now, she's coming back strong!

I love our little back balcony

it is so peaceful out there, especially in the morning

So I decided to make it a little more appealing and pretty

bought 2 plants to go out there but I think I need to 

add a palm out there to sit in the corner.

And the dogs just love hanging out here
